Why Spiritual Direction?

I believe it is very important for each of us to own our spirituality. While growing up, our belief system was often based on what Mom and Dad or our church believed. As we grew older, we looked to teachers/professors, books, seminars, and peer groups to help us continue to create our spirituality.

Each of us is given opportunities to make different choices about what we believe. For some of us it’s just the journey of life that brings about a stirring inside of us—a desire to know who we really are and what meaning our life has. Our thoughts turn toward the spiritual, which causes us to look into various ways of living a spiritual life. For others it’s something dramatic that happens in our lives, and we feel awakened and begin searching for how to have a meaningful relationship with God. And there are some whose spirituality has remained meaningful, and yet we are finding that as our lives change, we desire God in different ways. Sometimes we need someone to walk with us during these times of spiritual transition.

A Spiritual Director is a guide, a mentor, or facilitator for your journey. It is a person who listens, asks questions, gives feedback, and allows you to discover your own spirituality. Meeting with a Spiritual Director can be a unique experience. For many, it is the first time they are in the presence of someone who doesn’t give easy answers or try to “fix them”! Denise is here to walk with you as a guide on your quest to have a meaningful relationship with the Sacred.

How to Make an Appointment

The best way to set an appointment to meet with Denise for Spiritual Direction is via email. She is available for appointments from 4:30-7:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Meetings with Denise are held in the Spiritual Director’s Office (Room 5 on the back hallway of the church building).

What’s the Cost?

In the ministry field of Spiritual Direction work, most Spiritual Directors receive between $30 and $50 per session. For Denise’s work with you, she will talk with you at your first meeting about your ability to pay for One-on-One Sessions. The PPMCC Benevolence Fund is used to ensure that Denise always receives at least $30 for every Spiritual Direction session she conducts. So, if you can afford $30-$50, she is simply compensated by you. However, if you can afford just $20, the PPMCC Benevolence Fund will pay the remaining $10 for you. If you can pay $10, the Benevolence Fund will pay $20, and so on. Furthermore, the only people who will know about the assistance being given will be you, Denise, and Pastor Wes—as he approves all uses of the Benevolence Fund.
